Frequently Asked Questions
What is an unconference?
Unlike in a conference, the agenda in an unconference is shaped by the participants, fostering co-creation, collaboration, and spontaneous exchange.
What is an "Unconference room"?
Since no-one can predict how travel will be possible at the end of August, we offer you an alternative to still be able to meet oikees face to face while joining online.
Therefore we wish to offer you the opportunity to connect with oikos Alumni/oikees you may know or not yet know.
How? When registered, simply let us know by email how many people you would be willing to host and invite them in your couch for the day. Participants will be able to register to your “unconference room” up to 15 days before the event.
What is this year’s topic?
Although we do not have any particular topic as such, St. Gallen Unconference is dedicated to sustainability. Different topics falling under this category are being covered each year by participants.
What is a session?
A session is a 90-minutes slot where you can share the knowledge you wish. The sessions should be interactive. We encourage you to try unconventional formats and include icebreakers and/or energizers. For ideas regarding this feel free to contact us or have a look at SessionLab and seedsforchange.
How to organise a session?
Since an unconference is a participant-led event, any participant can organise a session.
The workshops/discussion groups should be interactive. We encourage you to try unconventional formats and include icebreakers and/or energizers. For ideas regarding this feel free to contact us or have a look at SessionLab and seedsforchange.
You organise it alone or with others, it’s your session after all!
When you register, you'll be invited to choose a 90-min slot where you can share a session on the topic of your choice as long as it's linked to sustainability as a whole.
Concretely, we’ll ask you to share a session title and a short description (max 100 words). Through doing this, you’ll accept to make your name visible to the participant as session leader.
What are potential workshop topics?
We prefer not to limit the range of topics that can be presented, and encourage you to come up with any topic that is important within the context of sustainability. To get a better idea of potential topics, you can check workshops that were presented last year here
What does unconference offer?
Unlike other events where agenda is defined by organizers, unconference is organized by participants. It offers you freedom to design your own agenda, come up with your own topics and host a workshop. We also offer you an opportunity to network with other oikees, and meet old friends.
